Briefly Describe the Purpose of the Program | ||
The Local Bridge Formula Program (LBFP) replaces the STP-Bridge Program and provides funds for the rehabilitation or replacement of deficient bridges greater than 20 feet. The federal funds are from the Highway Infrastructure Bridge Formula funds in the current federal transportation bill, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The annual funding distribution to Counties is based on deficient structures. | ||

A County, Municipality, or Township may request to use the funding on a deficient structure that is greater than 20 feet. The respective County Engineer coordinates the priorities. | ||

Funding Cap Per Application or Fiscal Year Program Funding: The program varies around $50 million statewide and is distributed to Counties based on deficient structures. |

How Must Funds Be Used: The funding is to be used by a County, Municipality, or Township on an eligible structure and must follow Federal Aid standards and policy according to the IDOT Bureau of Local Roads & Street Manual. The funding may cover 80% of eligible costs for on-system structures and 100% on off-system structures. |
