Briefly Describe the Purpose of the Program | |||||||
The Illinois Special Bridge Program (ISBP) provides funds for the rehabilitation or replacement of deficient bridges greater than 20 feet with a total estimated cost more than $1 million. The federal funds are from various fund sources in the current federal transportation bill, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). | |||||||

A County, Municipality, or Township may apply on a deficient structure that is greater than 20 feet. | |||||||
Application Deadline: Annual call for projects in late summer/early fall | |||||||
Application Guidelines: Annual application requirements are included in the Circular Letter announcement sent to Local Public Agencies and transportation partners. | |||||||
Funding Cap Per Application or Fiscal Year Program Funding: The program is $15 million statewide and is competitively selected. |

How Must Funds Be Used: The funding is to be used by a County, Municipality, or Township on an eligible structure and must follow Federal Aid standards and policy according to the IDOT Bureau of Local Roads & Street Manual. The funding may cover up to 80% of eligible costs for the construction phase of a project. | |||||||
